The 2018 Tour de Valley brings two exciting days of cycling to the southern Gold Coast. On Saturday 20 October, the beachside village of Kirra will again host the Kirra Criterium Classic featuring five divisions of races along the iconic Kirra foreshore. The 1.2km hotdog circuit produces entertaining, spectator friendly racing that attracts some of the leading riders in the country. The kids also get to experience the action by taking part in the free Bike Power Kids Challenge for 3-12 year olds and the circuit will again host the Invitational Bike Cruiser Challenge featuring local celebrities raising funds for the Amy Gillett Foundation.
On Sunday 21 October, the event heads to the beautiful Currumbin Valley for the Tour de Valley Challenge featuring the 36km Solo Time Trial, 72km and 36km Team Cycling Challenge, and the new 18km Corporate Team Challenge. Cyclists of all levels can ride either as an individual or as a member of a team and experience the beauty of the Currumbin Valley, following Currumbin Creek on a flat to undulating return journey through the lush, scenic countryside. The Solo Time Trial has four age categories for men and women and the Team Cycling Challenge and Corporate Team Challenge have a unique age/sex related handicapping system with a category option that separates teams with and without time trial bars. The kids will also get the opportunity to take part in the free Bike Power Junior Riding Challenge conducted around the event precinct at the Merv Craig Sporting Complex.
The Tour de Valley is very much about promoting cycling in the community and is again proud to support the Amy Gillett Foundation in its endeavours to reduce the death and injury of bike riders nationally.
